Since mid-March, COVID-19 has brought immense change to all our lives. We are living in a new era and while we try our best to cope with the pandemic, there remains much uncertainty. Fortunately, our County has fared well compared to the larger urban centers, in part due to the wide-open space of Renfrew County and the willingness of our population to follow the guidelines put in place to keep us stay safe.
Like many charities and services, Hospice Renfrew has felt the harsh effects of COVID-19. Since March, we have seen our donor contributions decline and our corporate events cancelled. Our largest annual fundraising event – Hike for Hospice – was postponed in May. Marjorie Joly, Executive Director says, “While it is still not possible to stage events involving large numbers of people, we are excited to announce the launch of a Virtual Hike for Hospice on Saturday, October 10, 2020.”

For several years now, Hospice Renfrew has been a leader in hosting the most successful hike in terms of monies raised, across Canada. Like many of you, the new world of “virtual” services has become a safe, secure and practical way of ensuring that we can move forward. Your financial support for Hospice Renfrew through this virtual platform will allow us to continue the care, comfort and compassion for residents and their families through their palliative journey.
The Virtual Hike means you can hike anywhere in Renfrew County (or anyway literally in the world!) Lace up your running shoes and walk our local trails, stroll in your neighbourhood with your pets or simply stay home and use your treadmill. You choose the flexibility and convenience of your hiking on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at your own pace and distance.
