Hospice Renfrew staff and volunteers understand that grieving often begins with the first news of a life-threatening diagnosis and continues throughout the journey that follows. You may have to deal with an entire range of emotions and physical reactions that create pain, fear, loss, fatigue or loneliness.

Our support groups are open to all residents of Renfrew County and the surrounding area. They provide a confidential, safe space to connect with other grieving people navigating similar experiences and hardships. It can be difficult to find people in our social circles who truly understand or know how to show up for us in our grief; peer support groups provide an opportunity to combat this sense of isolation and to witness, remember and grieve in community with others who can understand better what we’re experiencing.

For those looking for a more informal experience, the Drop-In Bereavement Café is a casual space to connect and chat with others navigating life after loss. For a more traditional support group experience, our peer support groups gather monthly in 3 locations across Ottawa Valley and are facilitated by our specially trained Grief & Bereavement volunteers. Additionally, closed group therapy experiences are offered intermittently throughout the year, facilitated by Hospice Renfrew’s Grief & Bereavement Counsellor. Attendance is free but we do ask participants to complete a brief intake process to register by calling 613-433-3993 ext. 2237 or email grief@hospicerenfrew.ca.
