What kind
of care does a Hospice provide?
Hospice provides end-of-life care to those who are experiencing
a life-threatening or terminal illness. Nursing care with
physician support is provided on a 24-hour basis by staff
specially trained in palliative care. The focus is on providing
pain and symptom management so the care and comfort of patients
is provided in a comfortable, home-like setting.
Is
Hospice where you go when there is "nothing else to be
done"?
Hospice
is the "something more" that can be done for the
patient and the family when the illness cannot be cured. Hospice
provides active compassionate care that focuses on comfort
and support of the patient and family.
Who
is eligible for care at Hospice Renfrew?
People with a life expectancy of 3 months or less are eligible

County and encourage family physicians to care for their patients
at the hospice. Hospice will also facilitate physician coverage
for patients when required.
What
will it cost?
There is no charge for care provided at Hospice Renfrew; however
donations are encouraged and welcomed.
Can
family stay overnight?
Family members are encouraged to participate in caring for
their family member. There is no overnight accommodation within
Hospice for families; however during the final days and nights,
a family member can stay in the patient's room and every effort
is made to provide peace and comfort for everyone.
What
benefit does Hospice offer people?
For those coping with a terminal illness, hospice is about
sanctuary. Those who turn to hospice will enter a home-like
environment where peace, privacy and dignity are encouraged.
Staff and volunteers, who are specially trained in palliative
care, are totally dedicated to care, comfort and compassion
24 hours a day - for patients and their families in their
final months and weeks together.
